OK. So now we're going to deal with vaginal pheromones. In this experiment, they had four women wear tampons for 23 consecutive menstrual cycles. And then they would give them to the experiment or every two days who would then put them in a KFC type bucket. And then, of course, they have to be sniffed in the bucket. So they had men and women who were doing the sniffing.
So they were the subjects and they had to rate whatever it was they were sniffing based on intensity and pleasantness. As a result, there were changes in the menstrual cycle. And the most important point here is in fact ovulation when the pheromones were rated as less intense and more pleasant by both men and women.

Pheromone Sniff Experiment
Now, that's kind of important that happened during ovulation because that is when women can become pregnant. You don't want any kind of pheromones that are going to cause people to avoid one another. And you know, you don't want any kind of pheromones that are going to cause people to avoid one another. Instead, quite the opposite.
So, OK, so remember that because we're going to be looking at ovulation now off and on. And it's vaginal pheromones that enhance female attractiveness to males. So we're looking at three classes of pheromones gathered over three different times. So they had menstrual pheromones, regulatory pheromone, pre-menstrual pheromones, and a very important control group; water.
In this case, only men were doing the sniffing and it didn't make a whole lot of sense to continue doing this with women. So a while they were sniffing, they were also given a bunch of photographs of women to rate based on the degree of attractiveness. Now the sample of photographs had been pre-rated by other males not participating in the sniffing part of this study.
This is because the experimenters wanting to have a range of photos that were at least prejudged by other men as being very attractive, moderately attractive, and not terribly attractive at all. While they're doing all that, they're also donating saliva because you can get samples of the male sex hormone, testosterone from saliva. So that's how this pheromone study was set up. If they were sniffing water, no pheromones, they pretty much matched what the men that pre-rated the photographs were shown. Learn more about pheromone experiments.

Pheromones and Ovulation
Here's the amazing finding. Those that were, were sniffing pheromones, rated the women higher in all cases. And in this case, it didn't matter where the pheromones came from.
They could've been ovulatory, menstrual, or pre-menstrual. It didn't matter. The amazing thing is to look at the gains of the women who were otherwise judged as not very attractive.
Attractive looking apparently suddenly become much more attractive, um, via pheromone detection. And again, it didn't matter where in the menstrual cycle the pheromones came from. Remember, they were also donating saliva. so let's look at those samples. Learn more at https://jail6letter.wordpress.com
When they were sniffing pheromones from the menstrual time, the regulatory time, or pre-menstrual,notice what happens to testosterone during ovulation. And what doesn't happen to it at other points of the menstrual cycle, it goes way, way up. And again, that is the male sex hormone. So that's a rather interesting finding in relation to ovulation.
